The Preemie Project seeks to provide comfort and support to critically ill infants and their families in Newborn Intensive Care Units in Iowa. We achieve our mission through the support of a devoted group of local and national volunteers.
The Preemie Project is happy to announce that we will be providing support to Unity Point Health Trinity Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Bettendorf, Iowa! We were contacted by a NICU nurse from that hospital requesting any support we might be able to give.
We will make donations to this hospital 2 or 3 times per year. Donations will include hats, booties, blankets, bereavement packages, memory boxes, developmental hearts and NICU bedding.
The hospital has about 1000 deliveries per year. Currently they have about 70 NICU admits per year and are expanding the number of beds in the unit.
Please visit our website programs page for information you need to craft for the babies.

The Preemie Project is well stocked with Developmental Hearts. Please DO NOT send any more fabric hearts to The Preemie Project.
But, we have compiled a list of HOSPITALS AND GROUPS REQUESTING DEVELOPMENTAL HEARTS.. The first hospital on the list, Prentice Women’s Hospital NICU, is badly in need of the fabric hearts. They need over 4,000 per year. We are hoping TPP volunteers will rally and flood this wonderful hospital with fabric hearts.
You can find a pattern for Developmental Hearts HERE
REMEMBER: DO NOT SEND FABRIC HEARTS TO THE PREEMIE PROJECT! SEND THEM TO ONE OF THE HOSPITALS ON THIS LIST.

We have updated our Urgent needs list 5/31/16
Please see the Urgent Needs Page on our website for an updated list of the items we are in need of at this time.
We have cleaned out most of the overflow of hats that we had earlier this year. We can begin accepting donations of regular hats and booties for NICU babies again. NICU nurses request pink and blue hats for new babies. But they have also requested bright colors. Please do not use dark colors like dark green, navy, brown, dark gray alone. Brighten it up with a fun bright color. Bright colors are best for photos and add cheer to the drab NICU environment.
Hats and booties for our “special donations”. See our calendar of events for information on upcoming special events.
We DO NOT need donations of fabric hearts - Developmental Hearts. We have received close to 15,000 in the last 6 months. If you have fabric hearts to donate, here is a list of Hospitals and Groups requesting Developmental Hearts.. If you are unable to download this list, please email us at
and ask for this list.
