Hawkeye Donation 2008

The Aker house has been a busy place this week as packages have been coming in the mail, left on our doorstep, hung on the front door, all in preparation for the 2008 Hawkeye Donation to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics NICU and Pediatric ICU that is scheduled for Friday morning August 29, 2008. The donation of Hawkeye themed Hats, Booties and Blankets is timed to coincide with the first home football game of the season that will take place Saturday. As usual, The Preemie Project volunteers have come through with flying colors. There have been alot of very busy knitting needles, crochet hooks and sewing machines. I thought I would share with you a few pictures of the fabulous work you all do.
Here are the number to date of Hat and Bootie sets we have received,. I am sure a few more will trickle in Thursday.
1-3 lb: 20 sets received (Goal: 20)
3-5 lb: 41 sets received (Goal: 50)
6-8 lb:42 sets received (Goal: 75)
9-11 lb: 14 sets received (Goal: 30)
We did amazingly well. What we have should cover the patients currently in the units.
We also will be donating 134 Hawkeye blankets. These blankets were made and donated by volunteers. Many of them were sewn at the last two workgroup weekends. You all should give yourself a huge pat on the back. Let me share some more pictures with you.
