My First Attempt at Blogging

I am attempting to learn a new thing today…writing a blog instead of reading them!  I need this after spending the day with two of my favorite, altho frustrating ladies…my mother and her friend who are 98 and 95 years old this week and still in their own homes.

Took two members of my Plus Ninety Club to the funeral of a friend’s husband.  This is my life these days…visitations, funerals, hair appointments, foot doctor appts, the grocery store trips.  Everything takes three or four times longer than usual.  I am blessed to have these ladies in my life but they drive me crazy.  Only if you have done this on a daily basis do you understand.

Why am I doing The Preemie Project?  Two years ago we moved from our vacation trailer in Arizona to a new home for our winter residence, and from our home in Muscatine Iowa, to Manchester, my hometown to help with my mother’s care.  One month later I was diagnosed with uterine cancer and I am now doing well, with frequent checkups.  I decided I wanted to do something more meaningful with my days than play bridge and shop.  Well, I have been doing other stuff too, but I was tired of clubby meetings and the same old stuff….so I had a friend contact the breavement person at the UIHC to see what their needs were.  Having lost a my third son at birth, I found The Preemie Project to be just what I was looking for.

I love to knit and have been since I was in college.  Have knitted hats and booties, sweaters and blankets for my kids and grandchildren and now needed more people to knit for.  I love knitting hats the most but blankets and burial dresses are fun projects for long car trips.  Last year I knitted a hat and bootie set at each Hawkeye football game (not during the game altho some of them I wished I had taken my knitting into the stadium).  During the West Delaware baseball and softball season I knitted 20 hats and booties this summer.  I am known at the ball diamond as “that knitting lady”.  I probably have been called worse.  Now I am thinking, what about knitting at church?  Well, I probably won’t, but wouldn’t that give the old ladies something to talk about?  I think I would listen better to the sermon if I was knitting.  Anybody else tempted to try this?

I don’t have any photos to post yet but I am working on some things for the Holiday craft sale plus knitting pumpkin hats and booties.  I will put some pictures up when I get that part of the instructions read!

Yeah, Nancy is blogging!  I am excited for you to post pictures of what you are working on.  I think the other members will love seeing your work.  If you noticed, I figured out how to put a picture of myself with my blog.  It’s a bit blurry so I could not make it any bigger. I need to look for a better picture.  Laura is going to try to post better instructions on how to do this.  You need to get your picture up there.  It is so much more interesting when we can see you.
We love having a part of this group.
Linda
