Positioning Snakes
We received a bag of Positioning snakes today from Sheri Null. Sheri is one of the “Super-crafters”. Ladies, don’t even try to keep up with her, you will wear yourself out trying. I wanted to share pictures with you because she added something that alot of the positioning snakes we receive don’t have.

Look closely, you will see that she included a loop of elastic hold the ends of the snake together.

Thanks Sheri, we have not had any of these to donate in the last couple of months. We will take these up with the next donation.
Sheri has had alot of personal experience with the NICU having been a foster Mom to babies that spent alot of time in UIHC NICU. If she sees this post, maybe she can help us understand exactly how the positioning snakes are used.
Here is a link to the website that has the pattern http://www.touchinglittlelives.org/snakes.html

Sheri says:
Yes indeed Michele. I couldn’t wait to put the long strips to this use when the need popped up. The snakes are used to “position” the baby with lots of support around them. They can almost sit up inside the loop. The tubes and IVs can rest on the snake stabilizing them better. The larger kids I have now are using them to prop them on their side so they are not on their back all the time. They also have weak hips and legs and we slip their legs into them to help align the hip joints. They got the name because some people close the tube into a point and add eyes. I like the flannel as it is so soft against the babies skin. Many nurses will tape the ends together so adding the elastic gives them more adjustment for sizing as the one side slides thru. Too much info??
