NICU Mom’s Group: Volunteers and Donations Needed
We are excited to announce TPP’s participation in the UIHC, NICU’s “Mom’s Group”. This group is exactly what it sounds like, a support group for women with infants in the NICU at the UIHC. Scroll down to find out how you can help!

Background Information
Ruth Truhlar, an NICU Social Worker, plans a “crafty” activity for the group about once per month. A couple weeks ago Jane Fredericks, Sheri Null and I attended the mom’s group and helped them make tied fleece blankets. We had so much fun and even had the chance to hold a gorgeous, 5lb baby girl who was back for her follow-up visits. The mom’s also had a blast and expressed how much they appreciate all the support that TPP provides.
At the last meeting, the mom’s also expressed feelings of boredom and helplessness with their babies in the NICU. They spend many hours at the bedside with little to do or take their mind off of the situation. We want to provide them with a craft to do at the bedside it order to help them cope. So, we will be teaching the mom’s to knit a small baby blanket in garter stitch on May 5, 2009.
How Can You Help?
1. Make a Donation
Knitting Needles: Size 9, 10, 11 straight needles
Yarn: Soft, chunky baby yarn (at least 4 skeins of the same type and color, for size 9, 10 or 11 needles)

2. Teach Knitting Lessons
Option #1: Attend the session on Tuesday May 5, 2009 from 1-2:30pm.
Option#2: “Knitting Group”- Be available in the NICU after May 5th to assist mom’s with their knitting. If no one needs help, you can just sit and knit with the mom’s! We are going to make up a schedule from May 6th-May 27th, depending on volunteers availability and the mom’s preference. Reply to this email with your availability and we’ll do our best to be as accommodating as we can.
