October Work Group Wrap-Up
Volunteers gathered on October 17th and 18th for our last work group weekend of the year. We spent the 17th sewing blankets and the 18th sewing sleepers. Thanks to their diligent hours of sewing, previous records were shattered!
Can you guess how many blankets this is?

That table is holding a total of 189 finished blankets! Incredible! When the sewing is finished, we bag up the blankets in garbage bags so they are “ready to grab” for donation. Each bag holds about a dozen blankets with equal numbers for boys and girls. Unfortunately I didn’t get a picture of the bags this time. There must have been 15 of them. They filled our dining room floor!
These ladies sat all day and turned the blankets right side out for top-stitching. They worked so hard!

Many people think that they can’t help if they don’t know how to sew. This is one of the jobs that we give our non-sewers. They get to look at all of the blankets, which makes the sewers jealous. They also help us stack them and attach donation tags. We are so grateful for the help of non-sewers!
The 18th (day two) was spent sewing blanket sleepers. Behold the finished stack of cuteness. 89 finished sleepers with zippers!

The sleepers are sewn in an assembly line fashion. We have 3-5 sewers per table and each table works on one color of sleepers at a time. These ladies were really sick of red by the end of the day, but we are going to have some very sweet Christmas sleepers.

We also made girlie sleepers…

And some for the boys…

Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time for this event: Allison Kuhns, Alyssa Mehmert, Audrey Knox, Brenda Dudley, Carla Lyons, Darlene Welsh, Deb Nollen-Richter, Hazel Kerr, Jackie Mason, Jan Blevins, Jane Krogmeier, Jeanie Hana, Katie Wildman, Kerry Dlouhy, Kim Horras, Laura Brofitt, Mary Anne Sheets, Megan Gugliano, Michele Hogue, Nancy Fisher, Peg Gugliano, Sheri Null and Susan Smith. We appreciate you!!!
The next work group is scheduled for January 16th and 17th 2010. Click here for details. This time around we will be meeting at the Iowa City public library, in meeting room A. This will allow us to accommodate for more volunteers and make more for the babies. Sign-up for our email list to receive notification of upcoming events!
