Why Am I Here?

Hi!  My name is Cathy Kaman Ryan and I live in Rochester, NY.  25 years ago, I gave birth to a 26-1/2 week old preemie baby girl named Kelly.  She lived 5 days.  At that time, our local hospital had a terrific NICU but no preemie clothes, blankets or burial outfits.  My daughter was wrapped in a giant receiving blanket and died in my arms.  She was buried in that blanket.

Twenty two years later, having been a long-time crocheter, I found my children, friends and relatives had reached saturation point on crocheted projects.  One night, in the Summer of 2005, I was searching Internet sites looking for charity organizations in need of blankets.  I stumbled upon Laura and her Preemie Project in its infancy.  It struck a chord.  Since then I have loved being a contributing member and I have made blankets and gotten my knitting and crocheting friends engaged.  Making a difference and touching the life of someone facing the challenges of a premature baby has changed me.  I am in awe of Laura and her Mom and the hard work of so many involved with TPP.  As a full time lawyer, I am limited in my time but not in my heart and spirit that are invested in this wonderful organization.  I bless each and every one of you.
