1. Because of recommendations for “Safe-Sleep” practices, The University of Iowa Children’s Hospital NICU and other Iowa NICUs will not accept any stuffed animals or blankets to be given to families for use in the NICU and take home.
2. The other reason to not allow stuffed animals with the infants is because of infection control concerns for babies that are often very sick and susceptible to infections.

-Regular knit, crochet hats in all preemie and newborn sizes. We do still need white hats in all sizes for our infant bereavement program. We also have a huge need for hats and booties for our holiday donations. See our Calendar of Events.
-Blankets (knit, crochet, sewn, tied fleece). The only blankets needed are knit or crochet in solid white, solid pale pink and solid pale blue blankets for our infant bereavement program. Sizes needed for bereavement blankets are 15 in x 15 in up to 36 in x 36 in.
-Developmental Hearts. The Preemie Project is overstocked with developmental hearts. But, we have a list of Groups and Hospitals that request Developmental Hearts. Please send any hearts made to one of the addresses listed.News2016-12-18T17:45:47-06:00Announcement

We have created “Baby Registries” to make it easy for you to donate items needed by NICU families that are facing financial crisis. You can easily purchase pack ‘n plays from any of these registries and have them sent to us. You do not need to limit your choices to those on the registries.

http://www.thepreemieproject.com/media/news_archive/announcement/#When:16:41:10ZThe Preemie Project is happy to announce that we will be providing support to Unity Point Health Trinity Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Bettendorf, Iowa! We were contacted by a NICU nurse from that hospital requesting any support we might be able to give.
We will make donations to this hospital 2 or 3 times per year. Donations will include hats, booties, blankets, bereavement packages, memory boxes, developmental hearts and NICU bedding.
The hospital has about 1000 deliveries per year. Currently they have about 70 NICU admits per year and are expanding the number of beds in the unit.

The hats will be donated to The Iowa American Heart Association Little Hats Big Hearts Campaign
Last year the Iowa American Heart Association collected 800 hats for their first donation. The Preemie Project sent them 100 Red hats for this first year of their Little Hats Big Hearts Campaign. They would love to be able to double the number of Iowa hospitals they include in this educational campaign. We know TPP volunteers can help them out in a very big way!
