I’m a blogger now!  Social Services food donation

This entry is proof that even old dogs can learn new tricks.  Web tzar#2, AKA my son Greg, walked me through how to post on this blog.  This is very exciting.  Not being a regular blogger, I have been craving a way to show fellow TPP volunteers some of what goes on around our house.  I was especially excited today.  Laura received word today from Social Services at UIHC NICU that they had used up most of the food that had been donated earlier this summer.  Because of the generous work of you volunteers, we had funds to be able to go shopping.  The Social Worker identifies mothers and other family members that are facing financial crisis.  One of the ways TPP has been able to help is by providing food packages for these mothers who are caring for their child in the NICU.  This is especially important for the nursing mothers.  So, here are pictures of what we were able to put together thanks to the funds raised at our last bake sale/craft.  We have come a long way in such a short time.  Thanks for all you do.

Thank you!

Hi Everyone:

The Craft and Bake Sale was a big success! What a busy day we made $3200 in craft and baked goods plus $533 in cookbook sales. The Fundraising Committee wants to thank all the volunteers who donated craft items and baked goods. Without your support we would not have been able to have such a successful event.

I also wanted to share with you what it takes to make these events happen.  It’s more than receiving all the donations and carrying them to UIHC.  We have meetings to organize all aspects of the event from reserving the area, requesting tables and linen, publicity on the event, logging donations as they come in, meetings to price items, set up and break down of the event etc. We have tireless volunteers (Michelle Hogue, Linda and Laura Aker, Audrey Knox, Nancy Fisher) who are up before dawn and meet to set the area up. And local volunteers who stop by throughout the day to support the event.
